Getting students involved in the Electoral Process!

Collier County, Fla. - September 15, 2014: The Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office is challenging local high schools to get students registered for the upcoming 2014 and 2016 election cycles and so far, seven schools are ready to participate: Lely High School, Barron-Collier High School, Naples High School, Immokalee High School, Marco Island Academy, Palmetto Ridge High School and Golden Gate High School.

The challenge will take place between September 15 and September 30, and the high school with the highest level of participation after their registration drive will win public recognition and will be presented with a plaque from Jennifer J. Edwards, Supervisor of Elections.

In order to register to vote, residents must be legal US citizens and must be at least 18 years old. Students under 18 are encouraged to pre-register to vote as early as the age of 16, which will prepare them for future elections.

The Collier County Supervisor of Elections Office continues to strengthen its partnerships with Collier County schools and engage students in the democratic process by providing educational programs, conducting voter registration drives, and participating in other events that familiarize students with voting and the electoral process. To learn more about voter outreach and educational programs provided by the Supervisor of Elections Office, contact Cyndi Young, Education Coordinator, at cynthiayoung@colliergov.net or call (239) 252-8805.
