Students express the spirit of democracy

Collier County, Fla.—September 30, 2016: The Collier County Supervisor of Elections office will partner, once again, with the Collier County Public School system to present an art contest encouraging students of all ages to express the spirit of democracy through art.

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one winning entry submitted by a high school senior and a $500 donation will be awarded to the art program at the school with the “Best of Show” entry. Four additional runner-up entries will be featured in election materials distributed by the elections office educating voters on the voting process. The $500 awards are provided by Champions For Learning through the Chuck Mohlke Endowment Fund of the Community Foundation of Collier County. Mr. Mohlke left a legacy of respect, charity, kindness, and a commitment to civic engagement and passion for learning.

“Chuck Mohlke was such a pillar in this community when it came to voting. He would have been proud to support Art for Democracy!” – Jennifer J. Edwards, Supervisor of Elections.

A call for entries will take place between Thursday, October 6 and Thursday, November 17. Winning entries will be announced on Friday, December 2, 2016.
