Registered Collier County voters and residents who work at a polling place either at one of our seven (7) early voting locations or at one of our ninety three (93) precincts on election day. There are different positions which consist of Clerk, Assistant Clerk, Inspector, and Poll Deputy.
How Can I Become an Election Worker? There are two ways:
Call the Supervisor of Elections Poll Worker Coordinator at 252-8052 and request an application.
Once the completed application has been received you will be notified to attend your Orientation session. All new election workers are required to attend an unpaid orientation.
Positions
The Clerk is in charge of the Precinct and is ultimately responsible for the performance of the precinct on election day. Computer skills to access voter information is required.
The Assistant Clerk assists the Clerk in completing forms necessary to update a voter's record. Computer skills to access voter information is required.
The Inspector checks the precinct register for the voter's name, verifies ID, and monitors the equipment.
The Poll Deputy is responsible for setting up the signs outside the polling location in the morning and taking them down that night. During the day, the deputy remains outside the door of the polling location to greet the voters; ask them to have their I.D. ready for the Inspector; make sure the voting room doesn't get crowded during heavy voting periods. And is responsible for maintaining order at the poll site and is sworn in by the Sheriff.
Training
Orientation Orientation is approximately one hour in length and is designed to familiarize you with election requirements in Collier County. Topics discussed include duties at the polling place, hours to be worked, required training sessions, physical requirements and pay rates. Prospective election workers have found this helpful in deciding if the job is right for them.
Election Training Sessions Florida Statutes require ALL election workers attend mandatory training sessions prior to each election. Attendees will be paid for the training sessions.
Physical Requirements Physical requirements include standing, bending, stooping, lifting approximately 40 lbs., normal vision and manual/physical dexterity.
Work Hours & Rate of Pay The average election day begins at 6am and ends at approximately 8pm. The rates of pay (per election day worked) are as follows:
Clerks - $195
Assistant Clerks - $175
Inspectors - $155
Poll Deputies - $145
Early Voting begins about two weeks prior to election day and Early Voting Locations are open Monday through Saturday. The average Early Voting Election day for election workers begins at 9:30am and ends at 7:30pm. Early Voting rates of pay are as follows:
